August-Early September | Introduction to research and scientific method Introduction to Engineering Design Process Discuss project with students Brainstorm project ideas/topics Begin paperwork and journaling Identify possible mentors if needed |
Mid -September | Topic approval Students begin review of literature State scientific question or engineering problem/need to research Work on research plan and submit for approval List materials needed and order/collect Complete required ISEF/NCSEF Forms based on the project |
Early October | Finalize Research Plan and procedures Check for safety issues or special permissions required Begin experiment Have data book checks Begin analysis of data |
November | Experiment! Continue to collect and record data Continue analysis of data |
December | Finish Analysis of data Design graphs Write conclusions Finish research paper Write abstract and design board or presentation |
Early January | Review required ISEF/NCSEF Forms based on the project Register for Local/Regional science fair DO NOT MISS DEADLINES |
February | Participate in Regional science fair |
