Benefits of Participating in the Science & Engineering Fair

Science fairs provide an opportunity for students to pursue personal areas of interest, apply research skills, and develop communication skills while presenting their research to a diverse audience.  The NC Science and Engineering Fair works to create enthusiasm in science and technology while encouraging project-based inquiry.

Where to Start

So you want to hold science or engineering project for the fair at your school?  Great! Look under the Teacher menu for great resources for starting a fair at your school. And if you get stuck, post your question in our new discussion forum.  Further support is provided in our summer workshops.

The first step is to find out if your school district has a fair and find out the requirements for participation.  If not, contact the director of your regional fair to find out when your students need to register and work backwards to pick a fair date.  Winners at the regional level will be nominated to compete in the state-level NC Science and Engineering Fair.

Important Dates

Make sure you don't miss any registration deadlines.  Fair and registration dates for the regional fairs can be found here and the information on the upcoming state fair can be found here.
